Pretty Little Liars’ Janel Parrish Undergoes Surgery After Endometriosis Diagnosis
View Date:2024-12-24 02:38:09
Janel Parrish is sharing her challenging health journey.
The Pretty Little Liars alum explained that she's been diagnosed with endometriosis, a disorder that causes pelvic pain when tissue similar to the lining of a uterus grow outside of the organ.
"I usually keep my private life private," Parrish shared on Instagram July 9, "but I wanted to share this if it can help other women suffering to know they’re not alone."
The 35-year-old said she was suffering from "excruciating pain" for months without knowing the cause—until she received her diagnosis. She then underwent surgery to remove cysts and scar tissue that she got "as a result of the disease."
"To my Endo sisters, there is so little information out there about this and there is no cure," she shared, "so it is easy for us to feel helpless, scared and alone. Seeing other women posting about their experienced made ME feel stronger."
So, Parrish wanted to share her story to help raise awareness about the condition and "lift each other up."
"We ARE strong and we got this," she added. "I got you."
And the actress is not the only one to get candid about her battle with endometriosis: Halsey, Olivia Culpo, Bindi Irwin, Francia Raísa and Padma Lakshmi have also spoken out about their diagnoses.
For Lakshmi, she wants others to know that while the condition isn't preventable, it is treatable.
"The sooner you have it addressed and get treatment, the more likely you are to preserve your fertility and lead a more normal life," the model told E! News in March. "Often women don't get diagnosed for a whole decade, and that means they're suffering every month, every year, until they get the diagnosis they need."
